Welcome to Old Northwoods Lodge, the perfect all season vacation retreat on northeastern Minnesota's legendary and historic Gunflint Trail (Cook County Road 12, which begins in Grand Marais, MN). Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway weekend, a classic up north vacation, a wilderness adventure, fine dining with a great view, or just a place in the woods where you can relax, Old Northwoods is the ideal place to visit. Whether it's spring, summer, fall, or winter, you can step back in time to a simpler, quieter lifestyle in the serenity of a cozy cabin in the woods or a bed and breakfast inn guestroom, surrounded by north woods and with spectacular views of Poplar Lake.

Surrounded by the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCAW) and the Superior National Forest, the area is known for excellent fishing, hiking, day canoe trips, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. The world-class Gunflint Trail Nordic System ski trails (200 km) are practically at our doorstep, and are groomed to perfection throughout the long and snowy winter.

Our French-Canadian style northern white cedar lodge is built on the site of the original Northwoods Lodge, which was one of the five founding resorts on the Gunflint Trail. The lodge, built by hand one timber at a time, was completed in 2001 after five years of work. It features two massive native boulder fireplaces, a gift shop and dining room, featuring full breakfast, fine dining, and an excellent selection of wines and cocktails.
